Oh baby baby again!
Tue, 18 Jan

Ok, this might not be news to many of you since it’s already quite old news, but if you haven’t already heard it on the grapevine, Terence and I are have got a bun in the oven – AGAIN! Woohoo!

I have been thinking that it might not be too bad an idea to compile answers to some Very Frequently Asked Questions and some other anticipated ones, so here it is all hyperlinked for your convenience, in case you don’t want to go through all of it:

What is the funniest thing said to you about your pregnancy?

Did you plan for this pregnancy to happen so soon?
We intended to have the second child close to the first one, but it happened a little sooner than we expected since I was still breastfeeding and we expected the chances of conception to be much lower. The truth is, we never really planned for either pregnancy to happen so soon.

Is it a boy or a girl? Which did you prefer? Are you disappointed with the outcome?
Our ultrasound scan a week ago showed almost indisputably that we were having a boy. Although I would have thought a girl would have been fun with a different dimension to it, I’m very happy to be having another boy.

When is the baby due?
The baby is expected to be born around the 20th of May.

How did you find out about this pregnancy?
We found out while on holiday in Singapore in October. By that time we were already 9 weeks along (which is typically quite late to find out about these things!), so you can see how we were really not expecting this to happen so soon.

Did you have any pregnancy ailments, ie. morning sickness?
As with Joel, the pregnancy has proceeded smoothly without any complications at all. It must be the relatively stress-free lifestyle (and by that I mean not having to go to work everyday!).

How old will Joel be when the baby is born?
Joel will be about 19 months old.

What will you name the new baby?
We don’t know yet, but we are trying to approach the matter with much thought, prayer and reflection (as we did with Joel), so it might take us awhile to settle on a name. However, we welcome any suggestions and will aim to have a name for him before he is born!

Do you want to have more children?
I think I’m quite happy with 2. However, before we found out about the sex of the baby, Terence confessed that he would be super delighted to have a boy, but that would only be because it would mean that I would be more likely to want to have a third, in the hopes that it would be a girl. As you can see we are slightly undecided on this matter.

How far into the pregnancy are you?
22 weeks. That means only 18 weeks to go. Typically.

Are you going to deliver the baby in Melbourne or Singapore?
Most certainly Melbourne, since our medical expenses are so well taken care of here. We would never be able to afford to have a baby in Singapore!

How are you planning to cope with 2 young kids on your own?
I don’t know. We are making arrangements for Joel to start some sort of child care activity twice a week, but I guess we will cross the the bridge when we get to it. We must either be slightly mad or very very brave. Yikes.

How will Joel adapt to the new changes?
Joel’s been great so far in terms of not showing any signs of separation or stranger anxiety, so we’re not extremely worried about how he will adapt. But in spite of this, he may feel strange and things might get difficult for him, so we’ll need to do everything we can to help him with the transition.

Who is going to take care of you during your confinement?
If everything goes according to plan then my mother-in-law will be around to take care of us during this period.

What is the funniest thing said to you about your pregnancy?
Asked in the most straight-faced manner, “So, Brenda, are you with child again??".

I am already having a neckache typing all of this out but please comment if you have question that’s not been answered here and I’ll be happy to add to the list.
