Quite a lot done
Wed, 16 Feb

I'm very excited for my friend who has recently bought herself a sewing machine (a Singer, no less!), and is now whipping up belts, bags, wallets and more. Crazy stitching is her trademark and hopefully we get to see some finished work on her blog!

I think that Joel looks so very very Chinese (single eyelids and all) in this picture I took today:

Stories to Share; Memories to Keep
"Joel, this scrapbook is a collection of our memories of your life. It’s about the stories, the moments, the relationships, the hopes and the dreams. It’s hard to say how long this book wil go on for, but this will be something you can look back on in the years to come and imagine what it was like for us to have you in our lives. It will help us all to remember too, God’s goodness; the grace and favour that He has been pouring into lives through you. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have in creating it for you."

Unbelievably Chinese. Like the bath picture here which looks like a Chinese Johnson's Baby advertisement! This page will serve as the opening page to Joel's scrapbook.

In a week of very high craft productivity levels, I made three other layouts prior to the one above:

My Cup of Tea
"GETTING TO KNOW YOU - those long, animated conversations you have with yourself in the mornings when you wake up; your little gestures; your enjoyment of bath-time; your “wiggle” down the stairs at high speed; your preference for plain, steamed rice; your enthusiasm for the drums; your words... You’re learning to communicate and we’re learning to listen and understand. Sometimes it’s frustrating when we fail either way, but what an incredible journey it is - just to get to know you and to make ourselves known to you. You are an absolute delight!"

The strip of words below the pictures are a line from the song, "Getting to Know You": Haven't you noticed? Suddenly i'm bright and breezy? Because of all the beautiful and new things i'm learning about you Day by day."

Fingerprints
"I can see the fingerprints of God when I look at you. I can see the fingerprints of God and I know it’s true: You’re a masterpiece that all creation quietly applauds, and you’re covered with the fingerprints of God. Never has there been and never again will there be another you. Fashioned by God’s hand and perfectly planned to be just who you are; and what He’s been creating since the first beat of your heart is a living, breathing priceless work of art. Just look at you - you’re a wonder in the making. Oh, and God’s not through - in fact, He’s just getting started."

These are actually lyrics from the song by Steven Curtis Chapman.

no_small.jpg

NO
"A two-letter word we use a lot, but also one that we dislike it even more:
NO touching the TV
NO banging on the glass
NO throwing toys
NO beating people
NO hands in the toilet bowl
NO touching hot stoves
...

Things get worse as you get older. Soon it will be: NO TV after 9; NO staying outdoors till late; NO chatting on the internet for hours on end... I know you probably feel like these laws and regulations do nothing more than make life boring. It’s true that nobody likes or even wants to obey the rules (not even us!). But you will come to realise that they not only keep you safe, they keep other people safe as well.

Rules create boundaries that tell you where you end and where others begin. They help you to figure out what's yours and what's not. They help you to choose the good and refuse the bad. They structure your life so that you will develop self-control and responsibility.

Believe it or not, boundaries are the key to truly gaining freedom. It sounds like the worst logic in the world, but it is only within boundaries that you are free to make choices that bring either good or hurtful consequences.

This is one of our major tasks as parents: to enlarge your ability to become an honest and responsible person. The process is sometimes painful, but our discipline and the setting of limits doesn’t make you any less loved."

Hey Bren, Joel looks so matured now! And with all the memories captured in pictures and your writings to him, he sure is one lucky little boy. Like Ands, I also can't wait to see the finished product!
